Payment
A 20% credit card deposit will secure your motorcycle rental and booking. E-mail us or book online, provide some details and we'll do the rest. The balance is due on or before 30 days before motorcycle pick-up or tour commencement date, and you can pay this by credit card or direct credit bank transfer. If you're a competent motorcyclist, 21 or over and own a full, valid motorcycle licence from your own country, you're good to go

Safety
Your safety is paramount, so it's important to know that you've chosen a trustworthy company with compliant, reliable machines that have not been 'off-road' and won't let you down. We have been awarded Qualmark Gold Accreditation by New Zealand Tourism.
Before you depart we'll go through the NZ Road Rules with you, show you a safety video, answer questions, and of course there's the usual Rental Agreement to sign. We'll help you familiarise yourself with the vehicle until you are totally confident to go.
Hours of Business and Rental Period
Your rental is based on a 24-hour period. For example (eg 9am to 9am). We're on call for assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you're never alone. Motorcycle Pick up and Drop-off hours are between 9am and 4.00pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday by arrangement, being a family business we can be flexible and look forward to working with you on your requirements. If you're flying long distance please get a good night's sleep before you pick up your bike, in fact we recommend spending a couple of nights in Christchurch to look around.
Long Distance Fees:-
- 1-6 day hire - total daily limit 350km - thereafter NZD 50c per km (eg 1500kms travelled over 4 days there would incur an extra charge of NZD 45)
- 7+ days - Unlimited kms: ie no charge
Seasons
High Season is December to March inclusive, the weather during this time is very reliable. Low Season is April through to November inclusive when you can take advantage of great rates but the weather is cooler but less traffic! In June, July and August there is a risk of mountain pass closures and treacherous riding conditions due to snowfall and bad weather.
Fuel
Your bike is presented with a full tank of 95 Octane fuel. Please return your motorcycle with a full tank of 95 Octane fuel. There's a gas station just around the corner from the SPMT Base.
Rental Accessories
For just NZD 5 per day per item you can hire from the following:- full-face helmets, open-face helmets, waterproof jackets, waterproof pants, gloves, and boots. Ask for our Extra Products List.
For just NZD 10 per day you can hire one of our GPSs. Sorry but we aren't hiring out comms at the moment.
Low seat options are available and Tool Kits including puncture repair are NZD 20 per hire.
Insurance
South Pacific Motorcycle Tours are fully insured to cover vehicle damage, loss and theft. Our standard excess is NZD5000. You can reduce this maximum excess down to NZD 500 by paying NZD 50 per day (5+ days hire only).
If you are paying for your deposit or balance by direct credit you will still be asked for credit card details for insurance purposes only. When you pick up your motorcycle, a credit card authorisation will be taken and you will be asked to sign a Rental Agreement. In the event of an accident or incident involving vehicles or accessories hired or a third party vehicle, you pledge to pay an amount as deemed appropriate by SPMT for the repair costs, or an estimated amount while final repair costs are being sought, up to the maximum Insurance Excess amount chosen.

We have a motorhome power hook-up facilities at our Christchurch Base and agents for Camper and Car Rental Outlets
Late Returns or Dirty Bike:-
- If you return your motorcycle late without discussing with us, we reserve the right to charge NZD150 per hour following the agreed return time, and NZD500 per day after this, until the motorcycle is returned to our premises undamaged. If you return your motorcycle in a very dirty condition preventing staff from performing a proper check-back, we reserve the right to charge a NZD150 cleaning fee.
